Serial number on the back

The serial number on the back of the Apple-1 was most likely written by Steve Jobs. According to available information, a forensic analysis has not yet been performed for this Apple-1. However, for some other Apple-1s with a serial number on the back, it has been confirmed that it is Steve Jobs' handwriting. More information.

History

Purchased circa late 1976 at the 1514 University Avenue, Berkeley, California location of the Byte Shop by Harry Saddler.
Up for auction at Sotheby's in July 2026.

Components

CPU MOS 6502 (1576), PIA AMI S6820 (7601), original 8K Mostek MK4096-11 (7620+7621). all blue capacitors.

Equipment

Original Apple Cassette Interface. Original Apple-1 Operation Manual; In-house copy of Apple Basic Manual; Apple-1 Cassette Interface Manual; Microchess manual; and various software on cassettes.
Stancor power supply, Datanetics keyboard, Hitachi VM-906AU monitor and Panasonic SlimLine cassette recorder.

State

Many ICs are not original and replaced: 2513, 2519, 74166, 74174, 74175, 7404, 7450, DS0025 etc.
